white balance

The adjustment that makes neutral tones in a scene render as neutral, compensating for the colour of the light.

It matters unusually much in aviation, because most aircraft are largely white and a wrong white balance is instantly visible on a fuselage in a way it is not on a landscape. Shade goes blue and sodium apron lighting goes orange; shooting RAW leaves the decision until later.
