Strictly the gate is the door and the stand is the parking position, but the two words are used interchangeably in nearly all airline communication. A remote stand has no gate at all, and passengers reach it by bus.

This term does not auto-link inside captions: "gate" is ordinary English, and a spotting location is very often described as being at a road or perimeter gate.
