back-lit

Back-lighting is usually a problem in aviation photography — an aircraft against the sun loses all its detail and its livery goes grey — and occasionally the whole point, when a rim of light traces the airframe or an engine's exhaust glows. Metering for the aircraft rather than the scene is what saves an otherwise back-lit frame.
